Personal tax filing goes faster and costs less when your documents arrive organized. Use this checklist before your appointment with a Mississauga tax accountant.

Income slips to collect

Gather every slip issued for the year, even for short-term or part-time work. Missing slips are one of the most common reasons a return is reassessed.

  • T4 employment income and T4A for contract or pension income
  • T5 investment income and T3 trust income
  • T5007, T4E and other benefit slips
  • Self-employment income and expense summary
  • Rental income and related expenses

Deductions and credits people forget

These are frequently missed, particularly by first-time filers and newcomers to Canada.

  • Moving expenses when relocating for work or study
  • Childcare receipts and eligible dependant claims
  • Tuition amounts, including transfers from a child
  • Medical expenses across a 12-month window
  • Home office expenses where employment conditions qualify
  • Charitable and political donation receipts

Key dates

Most individuals file by April 30. Self-employed filers and their spouses have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due April 30. Interest applies from May 1 on unpaid amounts.

If you have US ties

US citizens and green card holders living in Ontario generally have a US filing obligation as well, alongside foreign account reporting. Handling both sides together avoids double taxation errors and late filing penalties.

Ready to file

Bring your prior-year notice of assessment, direct deposit details, and any CRA correspondence received during the year. Wall Tax Pro reviews each return before filing and explains the result in plain language.
